WINE EXPERIENCES

BACCHUS & CO.

«A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.» –Louis Pasteur

Bacchus , the god of wine, definitely lives in Italy! Wine is an absolute symbol of Italy. Making wine means practicing the art of wine with the same dedication and passion with which the paintings, sculptures and drawings are made.In the geography of Italian wines the denomination of Brunello, Franciacorta, Prosecco and Super-Tuscan are terms well known to the general public. But the wines of Italy are not just these.

There are many terroir and denominations of other highly valued wines which each year enrich the landscape of excellence and prestige such as the area of Etna in Sicily. Every vineyard and every cellar has its own very personal story. There are wine estates that are handed down from generation to generation and there are new ones born from an adventurous producers vision. One of the great pleasures of going to a producers cellar is listening to their story from them whilst you sip on a glass of wine on a winter’s day in front of the fireplace in a castle or in spring whilst walking together through the sinuous vineyards in Val d’Orcia.

Together with friends who are renowned winemakers we will discover some of Italy’s great wine estates as well as smaller dynamic producers, loved by the connoisseurs, who make an eco-friendly approach a quality priority.Take a deep dive to discover dream vineyards and cellars in Piedmonte and Tuscan castles, the ancient recuperated vineyards in the Venice Lagoon as well as the precious bunches of seaside grapes from the sicilian islands.

FOOD CULTURE

BUON APPETITO!

«When the water in the pots boil, immediately drop the macaroni in.»
Neapolitan proverb

Buon Appetito! is the phrase that is said before any meal in Italy. A grandmother will say it before Sunday lunch as will a waiter in a restaurant.
Buon Appetito represents the thoroughly Italian pleasure taken in food as sharing, joy and an intrinsic part of its culture. Italy has a limitless culinary choice where each region has many of their own particular specialties due to geographic and  cultural characteristics.

You will find endless variations on the dining table, from French influences in the North to Arab ones in the south. A vast and glorious world where loosing yourself will be a pleasure to the palate as well as to the eyes. Osterie, Trattorias, family run and Michelin starred restaurants are part of the rich and varied fabric of our country. If the south is the kingdom of the Mediterranean diet and its elixir of long life in the Cilento, if rome is the home of artichokes and quinto quarto – Anything that is not part of the four main cuts of meat – in the center the Tuscan cuisine reigns supreme.

To accompany the fine wines is Tuscan gastronomy, a reflection of the region’s many distinctive features and diverse inhabitants. It is both poor and rich depending on local specialties. Extra Virgin Olive Oil is excellent everywhere. The region’s cheese includes Pecorino, an excellent sheep’s cheese. One of these is an exquisite version called Pecorino di Pienza, a beautiful small renaissance town teeming with farm shops, cheese makers stores as well as specialists in aged cheeses. While Tuscan bread plays a big part in every meal, dubbed sciocco,  it has little to no salt so as to compliment the decidedly flavorful food.

LOCAL HANDCRAFTS

MADE IN ITALY

In Italy all handcrafts are couture, unique pieces from the hand of a master.

Aren’t the nativity scenes from San Gregorio Armeno in Naples or the gold leaf mosaic tiles from Venice masterpieces? You can compare them in their own way to collection of clothes from a Milan catwalk or to a Florentine bronze master. Italy is the country of creativity and manual know how. Artisans have used the colors and the light of nature from the most beautiful country in the world and transformed it into objects, sounds and images. Many of these ancient crafts are disappearing with progress. But in all the regions, there still resists diverse excellence, rich in history. Nothing But Italy will lead you to discover these Italian masters with their ateliers and workshops, and if you are feeling brave you could become their pupil for a day!
