• ROME •
Every good day in Rome starts with a cornetto and a frothy cappuccino, the one and only real Roman morning colazione – breakfast. Then you leave your to-do list aside and go to discover an unexpected Baroque church wedged between two palazzi, or some romantic bougainvillea dangling from a tiny terrace. You will discover less crowded streets dotted with charming galleries and antique shops, colorful flower stalls and snug bars for al fresco coffee or a glass of wine.
There are things in Rome that obviously must be seen: the Colosseum, the Vatican with the Sistine Chapel and the Imperial Forums… but if you truly want to experience the real city… then finding time to get lost in Rome is mandatory.
The uniqueness of Rome is that it has its own concept of time: in Rome there is always tomorrow for everything but life. between a coffee a chat a lunch and a passegGiata – a stroll. Unexpectedly, spontaneously without much planning.
Over the weekend embrace the slow rhythm of the city and go for a walk along Via di San Teodoro – near Circus Maximus – one of Rome’s most beautiful and lesser known streets. It offers a unique view of the Forum and you will also stumble upon a secret gem: the farmers market where small scale farmers and shepherds bring their produce.
Roman food proudly shows its own particular vocabulary: pizza bianca, tramezzino, pasta amatriciana, pasta cacio e pepe, cicoria, puntarelle, carciofi alla Romana, straccetti, abbacchio… All of it a triumph of color and tastes.
When it comes to visiting galleries and museums there is no shortage of choice in Rome, but the Galleria Borghese located in the splendid Villa Borghese park never fails to amaze. Each visit is a journey through the history of Rome: from its time as capital of the Roman Empire, through the Middle Ages to the Renaissance, the Baroque and the nineteenth century. Raphael, Canova, Titian, Caravaggio… they all live together in this unmissable place.
As evening falls the city unleashes even more magic. You cannot leave Rome without experiencing an aperitivo on a spectacular terrace during that golden hour. Terazza Caffarelli on top of the Capitoline Museum offers the perfect view on the cinematic beauty of the city at sunset.
«As a member of the gens Antonina my city homeland is Rome, as a man it is the Cosmos.»
–Marcus Aurelius
