PIEDMONT

This part of Italy is largely untouched by tourism and in many ways is the true Italy, made up of villages, vineyards and culinary tradition. Piedmont is surrounded on three sides by the Alps, so on a clear day you can actually see mountain peaks from almost everywhere .The Piedmont wine country is arguably the biggest attraction in the area. The hills of this countryside are just as beautiful as those of Tuscany with the added benefit of fewer tourists. The wine areas of Langhe, Roero and Monferrato were just recently designated UNESCO world heritage sites.

The region makes some of Italy’s most iconic wine – Just three words: BaroloBarbaresco, Barbera.

Piedmont is also the land of food culture per excellence. Here You will find many of the starred restaurants led by a new generation of chefs whose mantra is local cuisine aligned to the philosophy of zero waste. On the podium of culinary specialties there are the rich pastas, braised meats and the signature hazelnut cream the Gianduja.

White truffles deserve a special mention as this is their homeland. White Gold as it is called draws experts and amateur aficionados from all over the world every autumn. As well as tasting them in numerous prestigious restaurants throughout the area you could also participate in a thrilling truffle hunt which is a real ritual, accompanied by expert hunters and their dogs, spending a day in nature that always ends with a sumptuous dinner.

Over the years some of the splendid wine estates have opened their doors for a discreet and refined hospitality dedicated to the care of the senses with marvelous Spas surrounded by vineyards and starred restaurants where you can enjoy the very rich local cuisine with a modern and innovative twist.

Piedmont is the perfect place to disappear for a couple of weeks, perhaps choosing to stay in a Neo-Gothic castle or a seventeenth century villa.

A land that is as discreet as it’s people that conceals it’s hidden treasures like the Capella del Barolo by the contemporary artist Sol Lewitt. a construction of Pop colors in the middle of the vines which has now become the symbol of the Langhe and that demonstrates  the strong bond between its inhabitants and  the territory.
