• TUSCIA •
According to Financial Times, Tuscia is the next big Italian thing.
Just the name evokes something archaic and mysterious, derived from the Etruscan people who once inhabited it, one of the oldest civilizations in the Western world.
South of the more refined region of Tuscany and west of bucolic Umbria, Tuscia is a territory of papal palaces, Renaissance gardens and Etruscan archaeological ruins where today illustrious guests from all over the world have come to live in the ancient palaces and castles.
Rome is geographically close, but at the same time distant. Here are the fiefs of the great lords of the Middle Ages and the sixteenth century: the Orsini, the Baglioni and the Farnese.
Tuscia is also a land of ancient culinary tradition and spectacular vineyards. It is filled with places that touch the heart, such as the small village of Civita di Bagnoregio, carved and built atop the crest of an impossibly fragile hilltop… An evocation by a magician. It is accessed only by an old pedestrian bridge suspended over the valley.
In the surrounding area, the Ruspoli Castle and the Villa Lante are daydreams. The old prince Ruspoli was a close friend of film director Federico Fellini and the rooms of his castle were graced by the likes of Brigitte Bardot and Truman Capote, to mention a few.
Tuscia is perfect for those seeking tranquility and the enchantment of stunning views. I suggest getting lost among the villages in autumn, when the air becomes crisp, touched with scent of the wood-burning fireplaces, eating chestnuts while sipping a good glass of red wine among the burnished yellow leaves of the forests.
