Ah Liguria!
Starting with the city of Genova which is still relatively unfrequented by mass tourism. It has an ambiguous charm with the grand seventeenth century palaces of the noble families on one side and on the other the life amongst the small alleys near the port. Liguria is a strip of land that clings to the mountains above the sea and that peers out to the horizon wherever you go.
How wonderful are the paths for trekking that overhang the sea at sunset, it’s vineyards literally clutching onto the earth and producing a rich wine in which every drop oozes its golden light.
The colorful villages of the Cinque Terre, where it is highly recommended to stroll about aimlessly. Another typical thing that you are going to love are the small trattorias set amongst the rocks to which you can only get to by boat and where they serve local dishes washed down by a good wine. The whole journey is worth it for this memory alone!
The coast seems to be purposely made so that one can loose oneself by boat amongst its ravines, or dive directly from the sharp rocks into the sea. Such a fascinating panorama that in fact made this land much loved by Lord Byron, the romantic poet. There is a beauty that captures you at sunset sipping a glass of wine contemplating the sea, a sweet melancholy that transforms to love.
«I had a dream, which wasn’t all a dream.»
–Lord Byron
