MAREMMA

Maremma It is the land of the Butteri, our Italian cowboys, who have been taking care of the pastures on the border with northern Lazio close to the sea for centuries.

Likewise the Butteri, the Maremma has an indomitable and wild character. Its people are proud and of few words. The landscape echoes this spirit in the endless expanses of wheat fields, the sea that laps its long golden beaches, the unspoiled beauty of one of Italy’s most stunning natural parks, with its crumbing, romantic watchtowers crowning the hilltops, built to protect from ancient invaders.

Maremma is the southernmost part of Tuscany, rich with differences from the rest of the region.

It was the heart of Etruria, the original home to the  Etruscans, one of the most mysterious peoples of the ancient West. Throughout the Maremma you will find Etruscan ruins surrounding charming towns like Orbetello, with its shimmering lagoon… a perfect place to enjoy the sun setting on the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Exploring the winding roads of the inland countryside, you will discover charming villages filled with fascinating characters and local delicacies in both old and new trattorias. The Maremma has a very rich food and wine tradition that, alone, is worth the visit!

Moving north along the Etruscan Coast, you will discover wine regions featuring the famous super Tuscan blends (Ornellaia and Sassicaia above all).

For adventurous and indomitable wine lovers, just turn inland to go in search of other treasures: you are close to Siena and Val D’Orcia with its Brunello and Chianti and then Florence and...
